We’re here to discuss whether 1.5 Ton (3 stars) worth buying or not. Read this 4 minutes report.
Everyone’s air conditioner does differently. While one device in the same line will last for 20 years without breaking down, another will fail within 2 years of implementation. One might argue that much of this is highly dependent on construction methods, but it is also dependent on the brand.
Customers are often perplexed by brand differences in terms of reliability, warranty periods, SEER, purchasing prices, and so on. The initial prices of HVAC systems are declining, expanding the range of solutions open to customers.
Onida, best known for its electronic appliances, also provides a variety of air conditioning units to its customers, each of varying qualities and price points and thereby catering to a broader spectrum of customers. However, as per the user’s experience, customer service isn’t that great though.
Onida air conditioners have a strong reputation in the industry, however not so good that they can be listed alone in terms of market share. Onida air conditioners is a company operating in India.
However, bad customer service, and fewer SEER scores, and a higher cost make us not recommend Onida AC to you. In our testing, the 3-star 1.5-ton model managed to score nothing over 5.3 out of 10 and stood seventh among the ACs we tested.
Sanyo’s 3 stars split AC model was the best performer in the 1.5-ton segment in our testing (Read Sanyo’s 1.5-ton model review). The short answer is, trust Sanyo over Onida here.
Now, we’ll weigh the various features of Onida’s air conditioning systems and let you know why it isn’t recommendable.
Build Quality
Onida air conditioners have a good return on investment for all customers, whether they be for domestic or industrial use. This is due to their highly robust frame and compressors – the key point of contention when shopping for a decent air conditioner.
You can like Onida AC units in the summer regardless of where you live; however, consumers sometimes complain about their units leaking refrigerant gas during the winter in colder areas.
However, considering its quality, Onida AC seems a little expensive compared to other ACs in this range of price. Similarly, Reconnect Air Conditioner also another affordable model, and you can expect a bit better performance in comparison to Onida. however, if you want quality, going with Midea 1.5 ton air conditioner can be a better choice.
This is considerably larger due to the fact that when Onida’s units were designed, the coils were made narrower in order to make the units sleeker and as compact as possible, leaving no space for the increased steam. This could cause punctures in the coils and, as a result, leakage.
We don’t call it “good construction.”
This, though, is an often occurrence, and Onida’s customer representatives don’t serve consumers that well.
The low SEER of Onida ACs makes it extremely tough for consumers to afford an AC without emptying their pockets.
Most importantly, Croma air conditioner models served better than reconnect in terms of durability.

Operation
Onida air conditioners have an average SEER of 15.72, with the most powerful model having a SEER of 20.
This means that if you like a high-SEER unit or one that is less expensive but has a lower SEER, Onida has a unit for you. However, there are other HVAC manufacturers with higher SEER ratings or more affordable units.
So what exactly is SEER?
SEER, the full form is Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio, is a calculation of how effective the HVAC device is in terms of the energy usage, i.e., the number of BTUs consumed per kWh.
By removing the S from SEER, you can calculate a unit’s EER, a ratio that indicates how effective a unit is all year. EER considers how effective an air conditioner is for both cooling and heating.
Compressor and Performance
Onida has received no concerns about its compressors; however, the same cannot be said about its evaporator coils. A compressor is in charge of applying pressure to the refrigerant Freon gas and transporting it through the coils. Onida air conditioners do good this feature.
The only issue is that the hot refrigerant is vulnerable to puncturing the coils and causing leaks during hot summers. Single-stage compressors have just a one-speed setting – maximum speed.
This either means they are turned off or are working at full capacity, rapidly cooling the room. Because of the high speed and constant switching on and off, more energy is used during service, which reduces performance.
Condenser fans are mounted in relation to the compressor styles in the unit. The Onida has a variable condenser fan, the Onida has a two-stage fan, and all other versions have single-stage fans.
Complete speed and slow speed are the two separate steps of a two-stage compressor. When the machine is turned on, these compressors operate at maximum capacity to cool the room.
When the target temperature is reached, they slow down rather than shut down. Because of the slow running, the device will retain the target temperature while saving energy.
Variable speed compressors will make minute changes in speed during the cooling process, starting at maximum speed and eventually slowing down as the necessary temperature approaches. This enables the compressors to conserve still more space.
However, two-stage and variable speed compressors cool the air very slowly. The recent model while narrating Amstrad AC Review proved that their new technology has surpassed many AC models and provides efficient cooling.
Special Features of Onida Split AC 1.5 ton 3 Star
Powerful Cooling
Powerful Cooling works at a faster pace to provide immediate cooling and a larger outdoor unit. It will easily dissipate heat outdoors and cool more quickly. However, with this model, it doesn’t work that well.
4 Way Swing
4-way cooling is meant to immediately cool the space, allowing cool air to enter every nook and cranny and providing uniform cooling in all directions.
Cool Mode
This is the mode in which the Onida air conditioner operates to keep the room cold. The temperature and fan speed could be adjusted. To conserve energy when using this mode, set the temperature to 25 degrees Celsius.
Dry Mode
This mode is useful in hot environments or in tropical cities. It causes the Onida AC to act as a dehumidifier, removing moisture from the air. When you use this mode, the fan runs at a low rpm, which saves energy.
Stabilizer Free Operation
Onida Inverter Air Conditioners run over a large voltage spectrum of 160-250V and can tolerate power fluctuations without the use of a stabilizer. You get a similar stabilizer-free performance with MarQ Air Conditioner.
Silent Sleep Operation
The silent sleeping features allow for a restful and relaxed night’s sleep at any temperature.
Noise Levels
In terms of noise efficiency, Onida air conditioners are average. Despite the fact that the chassis of Onida’s AC units are insulated with sound-absorbing materials, sound nevertheless escapes through the bottom of the unit, where a shielding grill is used instead of an insulating shell.
Under ideal conditions, this device can go as low as 40 decibels. This is sufficient, particularly when compared to competitors. However, with time, you may notice sound up to 55 dB.
Warranty
Another area where Onida air conditioners fall short is in their warranties. It has a regular warranty on its units, as well as a ten-year compressor and parts warranty.
Onida hopes to overcome this mediocrity with its 90-day labor warranty, but in order to do so, you must log the product after purchase.
Other HVAC suppliers, such as Sanyo and BlueStar, have lifetime warranties for all components and compressors, giving them an advantage in the HVAC industry.
We truly look upon this as a huge drawback.
Pros & Cons of Onida Split AC 1.5 ton 3 Star
Onida has a slew of useful features that make it run more smoothly and efficiently. However, some people continue to avoid these units.
The main explanation for this is that, despite being excellent at a variety of items, there are rivals who shine at every single one of them – from low rates to high SEER.
The following are some pros and cons of Onida air conditioners.
Why should you not buy Onida AC?
As per the informative and comprehensive tests conducted by our experts on the basis of durability, value for money, performance as well as installation & operations, this AC scores pretty average, and as per their suggestions, this AC takes place in the expensive segment.
Instead of buying this, we suggest that you should go with the Sanyo AC. Besdies that, you won’t find as sufficient cooling as Lloyd Air Conditioner or Panasonic Air Conditioner.
EXPERT’s Words On Why Onida AC 1.5 ton 3 Star Isn’t recommendable
As our research shows, Sanyo is a good option for a wide variety of users. When properly mounted, Sanyo AC customer reports conclude that these systems are cost-effective, durable, and decent cooling companions.
The Japanese company specialists in outdoor appliances, it has a strong reputation with consumers for producing high-quality HVAC systems. The Sanyo AC is the company’s pride, boasting overall positive results and ratings and hence becoming its most sold device.
While the Onida brand has some negative aspects, they are somehow major, and a large number of consumers encounter them.
Because of Onida’s bad customer service, all of these issues take a lot of time to get resolved. So, you should go with Sanyo with better performance, durability, and value for money.
